This course covers Integrity server virtualization using the HP Integrity Virtual Machines (Integrity VM) software.

Course number HB506S

Delivery method
Remotely assisted instructional learning (RAIL)
Onsite dedicated training (OST)

Special notes
This 2-days RAIL hands-on course is designed for experienced HP-UX Integrity server administrators. As of March 2007, the full content of this course is included in U5075S.

Course overview
This course covers Integrity server virtualization using the HP Integrity Virtual Machines (Integrity VM) software. Experienced HP-UX administrators learn to fully use the flexibility of the Integrity VM software to maximize the resource utilization of their Integrity servers and develop the skills needed to install, configure, and manage Integrity VM. The 2-day course is 50 percent lecture and 50 percent hands-on labs using HP servers.

Prerequisites

  • HP-UX System and Network Administration I (H3064) and HP-UX System and Network Administration II (H3065) or
  • HP-UX System and Network Administration for Experienced UNIX® System Administrators (H5875S) and
  • HP Partition Management (U5075S) and
  • Familiarity with network concepts and configuration

Audience

  • HP-UX system administrators with previous virtual partition experience
  • HP-UX system managers

Course objectives
At the conclusion of this course you should be able to:

  • Relate the HP Integrity Virtual Machines software with other hardware and software components of HP’s Virtual Server Environment (VSE)
  • Define the relationship between a VM host and VM guest
  • Install HP Virtual Machines software on a properly configured HP Integrity server
  • Configure, boot, monitor, modify, and manage VM guests
  • Boot the VM host Use the Virtual
  • Use the Virtual Machines Manager to monitor a VM environment

Next steps
HP Global Workload Manager (HC719S), HP Instant Capacity: iCAP, GiCAP & TiCAP (HC720S),or consider attending the other courses in the HP Virtual Server Environment (VSE) curriculum to learn more about HP-UX virtualization

Benefits to you

  • Maximize your Integrity server utilization and improve system availability by learning how to install and administer HP Integrity Virtual Machines
  • Increase scalability and improve the ratio of applications to physical resources by knowing how to automatically allocate those resources to the right application at the right time
  • Learn how to use Integrity VM to set up isolated virtual machines as test environments to reduce the time required to deploy new applications or application revisions
